Animal Crossing New Horizons Fruit Guide

A returning feature from previous Animal Crossing games, Animal Crossing New Horizons features a variety of fruit that can grow on your island in the form of fruit trees. Each fruit tree will grow three pieces of fruit that can be consumed, gifted, planted into a new tree, or sold for bells. On a fully mature tree, fruit will grow every three days.

Types of Fruit

There are six types of fruit in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. They are:

  • Apples
  • Oranges
  • Cherries
  • Peaches
  • Pears
  • Coconuts

Apples, Oranges, Cherries, Peaches, and Pears are all normal fruit. One of these five will be native to your island when you start the game. The others among this group can all be grown on your island, but you must plant them after obtaining the fruit from somewhere else. They can be planted on any grassy areas. Coconuts can only be planted and grown on sandy beaches. You won't start the game with coconuts on your island.

How to get other fruit

There are a few ways to get fruit besides the fruit that is native to your island. The quickest and most traditional way is to find a friend who has a different native fruit. You can visit each other's islands and plant the fruit. Once you've planted one tree, you can use it's fruit to plant new trees. You only need one piece to get started.

How to get sister fruit

You can also obtain non-native fruit by visiting a mystery island with a Nook Miles Ticket. There is a 9% chance to find an island with your "sister fruit" when you use a ticket. This is different than your native fruit, but will always be the same, so you can only get one other fruit this way.

On occasion, you can also receive other types of fruit as a gift from letters or from villagers. This is not very uncommon, but you should receive one piece of non-native fruit from your mother in the first couple of days you are on the island.

Coconuts are different from the types of fruit that can be native to your island. You can get them from almost any mystery island with a Nook Miles Ticket. Once you get some coconuts, plant them in the sand along any of the beaches on your island and they will grow into trees that grow two coconuts every three days. You can of course also get them from friends who have done this instead.

Selling Fruit

Selling fruit is a great way to earn money. It's a consistent source of income (trees grow fruit every three days) that grows as you obtain more non-native fruit and plant more trees. Here are some things to consider:

  • Your native fruit sells for 100 bells each on your island. However, you can bring them to an island with a different native fruit and sell them for 500 bells each. It's a good idea to stockpile until you can visit a different island to make five times the bells.
  • Non-native fruit sells for 500 bells each on your island. It can be tempting to sell this fruit right away, but keep in mind that each piece you plant will bear three pieces of fruit every three days. Make sure to plant many trees early on and start selling when you build up an orchard of around 10 trees of that fruit.
  • Coconuts sell for 250 bells each any island. This makes them the least valuable fruit, but they are also very easy to get and look different than other trees. So you might as well fill your beaches with them and rake in the extra bells. What's a deserted island without coconuts anyway?
