Animal Crossing Kapp'n Islands

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 2.0, a new feature allows players to embark on Kapp'n Boat Tours for rare island-types, gyroid fragments, and other goods exclusive to his expeditions.
Animal Crossing Unlocking Kapp'n Tours

In order to unlock Kapp'n in Animal Crossing New Horizons, updating to version 2.0 is all that is technically necessary. It is currently unknown if new players can unlock Kapp'n before unlocking Nook's Cranny or the Resident Services Building.

Unfortunately, Kapp'n can only take players on boat tours once a day. But, Kapp'n islands also have unique generation and items found nowhere else, as well as new Special Kapp'n Islands that act much like Tarantula Island and other similar special archetypes from the previous expeditions.
Animal Crossing New Horizons Finding Gyroids

Coming with Kapp'n in the Animal Crossing 2,0 Update is the ability to acquire and then place Gyroids, a main-stay of previous Animal Crossing titles. They are found in the ground, similarly to fossils, on Kapp'n Islands. After digging one up, you will have a Gyroid fragment. Then, once you make it home after the expedition, you can bury and then water them to receive a Gyroid.
Brewster also gives players a Gyroid fragment normally upon their recruitment of him following the café questline.

You will know if the Gyroid is ready if you see smoke puffing from the area where they are buried. Then, wait a day to see which Gyroid you got. Gyroids are also fully customizable using kits at a DIY workbench.
